WHAT I'M WEARING WEDNESDAY
Every once in awhile, I'll get asked about the makeup I use when I show my face on Instagram Stories. While I'm initially flattered, I can't help but feel self-conscious as well. It's probably just the filter I'm using, right?! I mean, I struggled with acne for most of high school and college (Hello, Accutane!) and I still get random bouts of hormonal acne in my 30s. My complexion is far from perfect and I'm always on the hunt for serums and creams to aid in the aging process; however, I do have a handful of makeup favorites that I've used devoutly for the past few years. In fact, approximately 80% of the items featured in today's post have been repurchased multiple times—with the exception of the bronzer, cheek palette, and mascara, which were recent beauty finds I stumbled upon this year.
I don't claim to be a beauty blogger or makeup expert, and while I know there are countless posts just like this on the Interwebs, I get asked this question enough that I decided to create a post with all of my tried and true favorites. In a world where everyone is searching for the next "holy grail" product, these ones top my list.
MY EVERYDAY MAKEUP FAVORITES:
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder for Under Eyes —I never want to run out of this!
NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer —Doubles as eyeshadow primer!
Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer—Just as good as Bobbi Brown, NARS, Chanel, etc.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask—Use every night to keep lips from drying.
If there's a special occasion, I'll be sure to use a primer; however, I typically just moisturize with this lotion first.

WHAT I'M WEARING WEDNESDAY
Max starts preschool next Wednesday and I can't believe it! In an effort to soak up our time together, today's post will be the only one this week. I'm sure you'll understand! The program he's enrolled in isn't anything special (three days a week for a few hours each day), and it's intended to give the two of us a small break from one another and help Max socialize with kids his age. I still don't have the foggiest idea what I'll do when he's away, but I hope it includes a little bit of blogging at SBUX, reading (What is that?), volunteering, and the chance to dress up more often for running errands solo. While the two of us have spent almost every waking moment of the past 4.5 years together, I'm equal parts anxious and excited to see what's to come for us both. Here's to big round sunnies, which will hide my ugly cry as we part ways next week, and polka-dot accessories to inject a little bit of happy to our new normal. Let's do this!

WHAT I'M WEARING WEDNESDAY
Botox has been incredibly effective in terms of my migraines. Hallelujah! But there's another perk to the injections that didn't occur to me until after I got poked the very first time and that's HEADBANDS, y'all!!! I LOOOOOVE a good headband, but whenever I tried to wear them in the past for more than an hour, the sides of my head would start pounding. Now that I don't have to say no to this hair accessory and there are oodles of adorable options available, it's opened up a whole new world of accessorizing for yours truly—not to mention, an extra day or two without having to wash my mop. SCORE! Over the past few months, I've dabbled with several brands (J.Crew, Amazon, Madewell, Shopbop, H&M, etc.), but I keep coming back to Anthropologie. Most of their headbands cost less than twenty dollars and the fit is incredibly comfortable. They've got a variety of patterns from stripes, seersucker, and polka-dots, in a rainbow of colors, constructed from materials like linen, chiffon, and even raffia. Here are m' faves:

WHAT I'M WEARING WEDNESDAY
The past two days in Delaware have been dreamy (we're talking temps in the low 70s, people!!). But when it does heat up and get muggy again (cough, later this week, cough), I know exactly what #momsemble I'll be wearing. These striped shorts will be a Summer staple for yours truly. You can literally pair them with any simple tank or tee, add a few colorful accessories for good measure, and you've got yourself a no-fuss, ultra fun, mom uniform. I think most of us will agree that a cute outfit can cure just about anything —even a meltdown or massive blowout at Target.

Remember that time we used to live in Texas and Hawaii and I pined for the days I would get to wear sweaters and coats that even the belle of Stuckeyville, Carol Vessey, would envy? Yep, my mom likes to remind me of this every time I start whining about how cold it is around here. But seriously though, I'm starting to think that I'm just not cut out for this changing seasons stuff. I'm already freezing and based on what the locals are wearing, Ugg boots might be overkill at this point of the game so I'm trying to remain "chill" without being chilly. WHAT I'M WEARING WEDNESDAY
About 75% of the time you'll find me in a getup similar to this. It's been my go-to mom ensemble this Summer because the outfit formula is a no-brainer. Sure it's simple, but the snazzy factor is still there with a blend of my favorite patterns, a punchy lip, and accessories that add a little personality to the mix. It's an easy look that says "I'm not like a regular mom, I'm a cool mom."

At the peak of my awkward adolescence, middle-school Ashley had a respectable collection of rugby shirts. Can anyone out there relate?! Okay, I kinda figured it was just me. Anywho, imagine the excitement that came over yours truly when I was browsing J.Crew's latest fall lineup and saw they brought back one of my favorite wardrobe staples. DEAD! I mean, who knew that girl donning blazers and walking shorts with great pride (circa 1996) might one day become a preppy visionary in varsity stripes?! Ha Ha! And while September weather in Swell Rio might be a tad too warm for this particular mom uniform, you can bet I'm banking it for later.

WHAT I'M WEARING WEDNESDAY
One thing I miss most about my pre-mom and pre-Swell Rio life is having more options to get gussied up. Anyone out there feel me on this one?! I knew it would be something I would miss when we moved here and I had Max, so I figured I might as well be proactive and get dressed anyway—even if that means a morning jaunt to the park or a trip into town to run errands. Sometimes if I'm wearing m' jewels at Wally World, I'll get a few stares or comments, but I refuse to give up something that brings me real joy just because I might be in the minority on this one. Over the past two years, I've learned that being a mom means you need to be comfortable, but I also want to feel kind of cute. So much of our day-to-day is routine based, so the last thing I want is to wear the SAME thing every day. For this reason, I'm always hunting for new options to mix up the ol' momsemble. And now that it's beginning to warm up in West Texas (too soon!), I was instantly intrigued by this ruffled number from J.Crew. Now, I know I said I don't want to wear the SAME thing every day, but when I tried it on, I loved it so much I had to buy all three colors (they were on promo a few weeks ago for 30% off). The top is easy, different, and I just had to tell you about it. When I find a winner, I've got to pay it forward.

WHAT I'M WEARING WEDNESDAY
It might not "officially" be summer, but the Swell Rio temps say otherwise. Would you believe me if I told you that our beloved border town will hit triple digits five of the next seven days. Gulp! But I wasn't ready yet... Needless to say, I have no choice but to pull out all of my trusty shorts, favorite skirts, and breezy tops to beat this heat. I refuse to let the weather get the best of my style.
