Romcom to Wardrobe: French Kiss

Fact: The women in my family are obsessed with Meg Ryan and her classic romcoms. As a blonde adolescent, I spent the better part of six years in pursuit of achieving her coveted care-free haircut. I mean, what normal teenager dreams of a day at the salon getting coiffed by Sally Hershberger? It was by no means healthy, but this tenacious hair-raising phase spanned from middle school to college -- sadly, I have pictures to prove it!

And while I said c'est la vie to Meg's signature cut, I'm still just as smitten with her movies. One of my absolute favorites is French Kiss. Please, tell me you've seen it! It's one of those classics I find myself quoting on a regular basis. In fact, this past weekend I recited one of my favorite lines:
"Happy - smile. Sad - frown. Use the corresponding face for the corresponding emotion."
Although I'm not sure the people around me had any idea as to what I'd just said, uttering those words made me happy inside. Days later, I'm still thinking about the movie and wishing I had an hour to dust off my DVD and take an imaginary trip to France with Kate (Meg Ryan) and Luc (Kevin Kline). In the meantime, I think I'll spend the rest of the day spouting out movie quotes. I hope you enjoy my interpretation of Meg's French Kiss wardrobe.

What's your favorite chick flick?
Happy Wednesday, dear friends!

Hello, weekend...

If all goes as planned, Flyboy should return tonight. Yippee! After a two-week trip stateside, he'll have a few days of leave to relax and recuperate. I'm so excited! And since I haven't seen him in awhile, I took a few days off to ensure we get some quality time together. We're calling it our "staycation." I know what you're thinking, isn't life in Hawaii just one BIG vacation? It's pretty great, but better when you get to share it with someone special. In typical Type-A fashion, we do have a few items on our to-do list; however, the majority of this "staycation" will be spent at the beach. Whenever he's away, my diet consists of soup, salad, and Hot Pockets (healthy, I'm aware), so I'm elated to go grocery shopping and try out a few new recipes as well. Stay tuned for more details. If I try anything that's absolutely amazeballs, I'll be sure to share it with you. What do you have cookin' this weekend? I'm talking plans or recipes. Anything terribly exciting? Do tell. In the meantime, here's my weekend at a glance...
Word. / Tangelo Bib
While Flyboy catches up on "boy" TV and studies, I plan on pinning pretty things and clever words.
Head Up Band / Osman Chair
I'll consider recreating this fabulous piece of head gear, and we'll celebrate one year at Lil' Puna!
The Essentials: Sun / Sea Bag / Soludos / SPF
As I mentioned earlier, we'll spend a day or two by the sea together. My idea of absolute bliss.
The Five-Year Engagement / "The Only Chocolate Chip Cookie..."
I think I'll tickle my funny bone and satisfy my sweet tooth. Hey, it's the weekend!

Enough about me.
Go on and have a blast this weekend! You deserve it.

Paris (Ooh La La)

When Flyboy is away, I get complete control of the boob tube. Winning! We like a lot of the same shows (Bravo included), so this isn't really a problem -- except for when he wants to watch hours of Gold Rush. Side Note: For those familiar with this show, I just can't stand that one old man's annoying voice. It's awful!

Now, I'll get back to the point of this post. While I'm by myself, I really like to have some sort of background noise. It seems to make the time go by faster and keeps the pups and me from obsessing over every little noise. I mostly see it as an opportunity to play episodes of the New Girl repeatedly. It's almost as though Schmidt, Jess, and I are just hanging out -- douche bag jar included. Anywho, this past week I watched Midnight in Paris again. Swoon! I just adore that movie. It's the kind of film that makes my mouth hurt because my smile is so ginormous. It's a double barrel kind of grin -- one that is far from being attractive. I guess there's just something so wonderful about Paris, the city's beautiful scenery, history, art, and literature. Some of my favorite worlds collide in one film, and it's enchanting! I'm always sad to see the movie end, but with each viewing I feel reinvigorated and inspired.

Sadly, I don't have any future trips to Paris planned. Le sigh! But it's left me bound and determined to find some sort of local activity, hole-in-the-wall eatery, or hidden shop, that will hopefully ignite this same kind of creative fire inside me. This weekend I have one goal, and that's to achieve my double barrel smile. It would be ideal if Flyboy returns before the weekend is over. And to be completely honest, if this were to happen, a double barrel smile is inevitable. I would be elated to share a Sunday on the beach together with a copy of The Paris Wife at hand -- that might be just enough to satisfy my French fix for now!

After all of this rambling, you deserve to feed your inner Francophile...
