PHOTOS AND ARTWORK VIA CLOSED MONDAYS, BEKKA'S BLOG, AND FRONT + MAIN

Happy Friday! I decided to shake up the ol' blog routine this week and bring you a splash of unpredictable content I thought you might enjoy in lieu of my go-to Love List and Thursday's Thoughts. Instead, I've been itching to share a new-to-me shop called Closed on Mondays—a textile brand that makes baskets and bags out of rope and thread from a studio based in Brooklyn. And in case you were wondering, they are indeed closed on Mondays. Here's why:
"We feel as though the traditional Monday through Friday nine to five isn't necessary in the modern world. We believe that if people have a great life outside of work, they bring more energy into their work. "Great life" means different things to different people, but we think that having extra time to take care of life stuff (whether it's family, self-care, doctors appointments, or just a whole day to binge watch TV) allows people to fully focus on work stuff while at work."
While browsing West Elm's latest selection in hopes of spending my beloved reward dollars (because I'm so great at being a customer—natch!), I learned about Closed on Mondays a few weeks ago. I was instantly drawn to the idea of organization mixed with the most delightful colors and textures. It was only when I read about the maker behind the baskets that I realized I was already a huge fan of founder Bekka Palmer's work. Thanks to her feature in Design Crush a few years ago, I've followed her blog for awhile. Go on and feast your eyes on her paintings, sketchbook, and Thread on Film series. While you're at it, take a look at this interview with Palmer on Front + Main —West Elm's blog. I definitely snagged this basket after laying eyes on it (the punchy combo!), and I loved learning about the process used in making the pieces in addition to getting an inside look into Bekka's studio.

Have a fabulous Friday! Make this weekend count.

Happy Wednesday, m' dears! This week has been a little hectic with painting and Turkey Day prep (Who's reading blogs right now anyway?! Presence over presents, right??), but I just HAAAAAAADDDD to pop in for a hot second and share this gem of a shop with you. Are you familiar with Cabbages and Kings?! If not, you better jump on it. I'm talking about some SERIOUSLY cute accessories for kids—the kind that will leave you feeling mopey they don't make it in your size. Womp womp! And can we talk about those pom-poms? Who in their right mind could deny these knitted knots of cheer? The adorable details are practically perfect in every way.

All pom-related threats aside, have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I'll be back next week with Gift Guide mania. Are you ready for it?

When I stumble upon some form of fabulosity, you've grown to expect that I'll share it with you. Right?! Well, I recently added Emma from Josh Yöung Design House to our collection and I'm absolutely smitten with the chic and quirky print! She just seems like the kind of gal that makes her own sunshine, don't you think?? Each piece of art is individually made, hand-signed and features a mixed media technique using vibrant acrylic and oil paints overlaid on high-quality, developed prints from Josh Yöung's studio in Brooklyn, New York. The best part? It doesn't cost an arm and a leg to give your space or ever-changing gallery wall a fun and sophisticated update.

Check out Josh Yöung Design House for more of his work and online shop. Color me obsessed!

CANDYLAB TOYS

I feel like it's my motherly duty to share any sort of cute toy I can find with you. But as many of you are aware, I'm typically attracted to all of the girly cuteness that flutters around the Interwebs. Can you blame me?? There's just SO much of it. Sigh. Lucky for you, I finally stumbled upon a real #boymom win—but girls will adore them as well, obvi. If you're in a similar situation and your house is covered with ALL the trains and trucks, you're going to want to add a few pieces from Candylab Toys to the mix. The design and color schemes are so beautiful, you won't mind having these pieces scattered about. Trust me! We recently added Pioneer and Towie to the playful mix at our abode and I find myself tinkering around with them almost as much as Max does. They're such a treat!

Shop the selection of smoking rides via Candylab's online shop or Amazon if Prime is your preference.

ERIN FLETT LINEN PILLOWS AND DECORATIVE HOME GOODS MADE IN MAINE

A few months after Max was born, I purchased a hand-printed pillow (this one) from Erin Flett and let's just say it didn't disappoint. Obsessed with the charm and quality of her designs, I went on to send a few totes and dish towels to friends as gifts. In my opinion, they're a slam dunk when you're not entirely sure what to get someone you adore. From time to time, I like to check in on Erin's shop and snoop at her Instagram often to see if she's added any new treasures to the mix. Never one to let me down, I noticed Erin's selection of goodies has only expanded, which makes me giddy just thinking about all the gifting (and treat yo self—Ha!) possibilities. As if the canvas lunch boxes, patterned clutches, and whimsical drinking glasses aren't enough, the throw pillow hoarder in me can't stop gushing over the recent mix of velvet WITH a special silk-screened trim (think spots and stripes forever).

HERE ARE MY FAVORITES...

ROALD DAHL X MINI BODEN

LIMITED-EDITION: MINI BODEN X ROALD DAHL

Oh how I wish I could go back in time and interrupt that girl in Ms. van der Meer's 4th grade class! I'm talking about the 10-year-old version of MYSELF that was more than likely nose-deep in one of Roald Dahl's classics. With great excitement I would tap her on the shoulder and jump at the chance to tell her that one day she'd get the opportunity to buy BFG or Matilda themed clothing for her splendiferous son. Squeeeee! Did somebody say WHIZZPOP?! Thanks to Boden's latest limited-edition collection, my dream has become a reality. Max's wardrobe will soon be brimming with all sorts of magic and mischief (um, as if we needed any more of that...). In honor of the beloved storyteller's 100th birthday and Boden's 25th anniversary, the creative forces joined together to celebrate both milestones in the cutest and most whimsical way possible. Here are some of my favorites...

The collection officially launched on October 3rd and you can bet purchasing a few pieces from the collaboration was my top priority Monday morning. And since I love a good deal as much as the next person, I did a little googling and found a 15% off coupon (discount code: 6F5Z) that's good through October 23. To my fellow Roald Dahl fans and mothers, HAPPY SHOPPING!

A BEAUTYCOUNTER GIVEAWAY

I've never claimed to be a beauty blogger, but when I do stumble upon something I like, I'm often compelled to share it with my readers. Over the past year I've read a lot of feedback regarding the game-changing beauty and skincare brand Beautycounter whose mission is to "get safer products into the hands of everyone." Who doesn't want that?? At the beginning of the summer I finally took the plunge and tried the line's Tint Skin. It wasn't long before I quickly became obsessed with the foundation's flawless finish and lightweight texture. Yaaaaaaaaas! But since it takes me awhile before I can really commit to a new foundation, I was hesitant to share a review on the blog because changes like this take time and personal opinions regarding products can vary depending on one's climate, complexion, etc. I mean, how many of you have ordered beauty products online that you immediately regretted? In this case, I was more than ready to try more of Beautycounter's products, but I didn't know where to start.

So imagine my surprise when out of the blue I got an email two weeks ago from Beautycounter consultant and blog reader, Erin Tomlinson, who offered to send some samples and graciously host a giveaway?? You guys, opportunities like this NEVER happen to me, so I was beyond giddy to experiment with samples from both the skincare and beauty lines. Here are a few of my favorites...

  • Rejuvenating Radiance Serum — I'm a sucker for serums and I LOVED how this felt when it was applied. With hopes of brightening, firming, and hydrating your skin, this has some of the best reviews out of all of the line's products.
  • Lip Sheer in Petal — An everyday lipstick that's moisturizing and lightweight with buildable color. It's a great option for a mom on the go who doesn't have time to look in a mirror for application. Oh, and this stuff smells divine too!
  • Tint Skin — As I mentioned before, this lightweight formula delivers a flawless finish and covers imperfections.
  • Charcoal Cleansing Bar — This bar boasts to detoxify and absorb the skin's impurities without drying the skin. Upon trying it for the first time, it was clear Beautycounter was not messing around with this one. Immediately after using it, my skin looked brighter and felt smoother. I will definitely be purchasing again along with this Purifying Charcoal Mask.

Now, here's where it gets even better. Are you ready?? TWO lucky readers will have the chance to be pampered too as one Facebook follower will win a Travel Set ($50 value) and one Instagram follower will receive a $50 Beautycounter gift card. The winners will be announced in this Friday's Love List on August 19. Woo Hoo! Good luck and GO get em!

In the event you're looking to treat yourself or someone you adore, I felt it was my official blogging duty to share this amazing Etsy shop with you all. How fabulous is this French-inspired skincare line?! The packaging alone has me feeling weak in the knees, but the product itself gets rave reviews. Score! After perusing the shop's goodies, I was tempted to add one of everything to my Favorites (AKA my pretend shopping cart), but I managed to pare my selection down to these four favorites. Now let's see how long it takes before I pull the trigger and purchase at least one of these pamper-iffic pretties...

COLOR CORD COMPANY

Whenever my mom comes to visit, I can count on her to give new life to our living space. Squeeeeee! Within hours of her arrival, the two of us were plotting to swap out throw pillows, slap a fresh coat of paint on the dining room walls, and brainstorming ways in which we could best utilize an awkward nook in the kitchen. Yep, all of that AND a boat load of yard work took place within the first three days of my parents' visit. For this Type-A task master, it was heavenly, my friends! And since my mom and dad bought Max a table and chairs for his birthday, the useless space in the kitchen seemed like the perfect spot to create a place for the babe to work and play—especially as he gets older. Unfortunately, our creative kid-friendly corner lacked any sort of ambient lighting. I'm talking about a fluorescent nightmare. Oy! As the wheels started turning and we began thinking about our options, the Color Cord Company immediately came to mind. For almost two years I've had BIG ideas to incorporate their snazzy shades and colorful cords somewhere in our house but never really had a NEED until now. I jumped at the opportunity to place an order and I couldn't be happier with the results. I can't wait to share specific details about the pieces we used to transform the space in an upcoming post. Now I can't stop looking around the house for other places to use these budget-friendly and creative light sources. They're SO much fun!!

Oh, and I can assure you that NOTHING about this post has been sponsored. You know that's not my thing!
I'm just incredibly giddy about good lighting and cute sources. You could say I got it from my mama...
P.S. For more DIY ideas and inspiration, be sure to check out the Color Cord Company's blog.

CARDS VIA LITTLE LOW
Lately there have been a slew of birthdays and babies that require celebratory mail, so I spent Sunday afternoon checking out my note-card inventory only to realize my current snail mail sitch is lacking BIG time. Yikes, I can't believe I'm actually admitting that on the blog! Kidding, but only kind of... Anywho, while browsing the web for cute options to replenish my stash, I found myself visiting Little Low. I've shared a few items from the Austin-based paperie previously, but I felt it was necessary to "spread the happy" by dedicating an entire post to Caitlin McClain's bright and cheeky paper goods. Can't get enough? Hop on over to the shop!

PINHOLE PRESS

MAX'S MINI BOOK COURTESY OF PINHOLE PRESS

Having spent over a decade of my childhood overseas with the Air Force, my family got used to missing our relatives that lived stateside. While this way of life might not sound ideal to some, it's the only normal I've ever known. Annual visits were chock-full of memories and inevitably led to tearful good-byes. It never got easier, and I've learned it never does. So when I agreed to carry on with this lifestyle by marrying into the military, I knew distance from family would be part of the package. I just didn't realize that adding a baby to our brood would make those good-byes THAT much harder.

Suddenly I understand what my parents went through each time our family would come and go. I can't help but think about all of those video cassette tapes filled with family footage that would be sent from Europe back to Iowa every few months so our relatives could watch my sister and me grow.  Aside from the occasional visit, it was the best way for us to stay connected. Thankfully, technology has advanced quite a bit since the early 90s (Yikes, and our perms!) and there are oodles of creative ways to for us to stay in touch with our family as Max gets older.

While I adore FaceTime and picture/text messages, I wanted to find other fun ways for Max to become familiar with his family near and far. In my search to bring our loved ones to Swell Rio, I've found that Pinhole Press' customized book of names and faces is a fantastic tool. We have the book with us at all times and while I'm not sure he knows anyone in the pictures just yet, I'm certain that repetition and time will make each individual grin recognizable.

Happy Wednesday, m' dears! How do you like to stay in touch with your loved ones?

It appears Max does not understand my desire to get back into the bloggie groove this week. Oy! So while he does his best to boycott his afternoon nap, just imagine me stubbornly scrambling to put some sort of snazzy post together. Thankfully, this fabulous assortment of lifestyle necessities from Sideshow Press delivers BIG time. Did somebody say jackpot?! After drooling over the shop's newest curiosities, I have this crazy desire to purchase a desktop bell and these cocktail coasters. Also, have you ever seen a sweeter set of toothpicks?! I want it all. Somebody book me a one-way ticket to Charleston and stat. I think I found my happy place.

SHOP SPOTLIGHT: NOBLE CARRIAGE

Who's the bonehead mom that scheduled Max's doctor's appointment during the coveted nap time? Raises hand sheepishly. Clearly I WASN'T thinking. At all. So in an effort to remain optimistic and trust the babe will be nothing but sunshine this afternoon for the doc, I figured I'd go ahead and share these fabulous bundles of joy (just like Max!) from the online boutique Noble Carriage. These would be adorable gifts for anyone in your life who's got a bun in the oven. Not to mention, they serve as fantastic inspiration for assembling a personalized baby bundle of your very own. The best part? Pieces from each bundle are sold separately. Cute overload.

Have a swell Wednesday! You can count on more rambling in tomorrow's post. xo

LET'S TAKE FIVE

Because on Wednesdays you like to stop by One Fine Day for a colorful pick-me-up...
  1. Karma Baby Onesie via Strawberry Moth // I'm fairly certain it's time to add this onesie to Max's growing collection. Whether we're running errands or strolling the neighborhood, I've found this twenty-pound chunk of love is a goodwill ambassador to all he meets. Swell Rio curmudgeons, you've been warned—Max is coming for you and he WILL make you smile.
  2. Indoor/Outdoor Pillows via Pencil Shavings Studio // This isn't the first (or last) time I've professed my love for Rachel's online shop, Pencil Shavings Studio. On a mission to banish beige, she added these adorable indoor/outdoor throw pillows and I couldn't be more thrilled. I truly love the idea of outdoor living and entertaining, but I've found it's difficult to find pieces to fit my aesthetic that don't break the bank. Better yet, the selection of prints and colors can be customized to suit your style!
  3. Raffia Lamp with Textile Cable via lacasadecoto // Choosing just one item to share from this vender was difficult. Can we also take a moment to discuss all that's perfect about this pom-pom wool pillow? You had me at hot pink stripes, my friend!
  4. Life is Tough Art Hoop via Little Low // A stationery favorite based out of Austin, Texas—need I say more?! I often browse Little Low's Etsy shop to stay on top of all the latest and greatest designs created by Caitlin McClain. I'm currently smitten with these cute art hoops. They would be a fabulous gift for family and friends, or the perfection addition to any gallery wall!
  5. Recycled Neon Lips via Ann Howell Art // About two weeks ago, I heard about Ann's work and immediately pinned it to share in an upcoming post. Believe me, it's been hard to keep this one under wraps! From handprinted textiles and framed works (like the b-e-a-utiful one featured today), what's not to love about Howell's "just put some paint and glitter on it" mentality?

If you're not grinning over these goodies, well then, I can't help you.

SHOP SPOTLIGHT

The people at Rocksbox reached out to me recently to see if I'd like to try their jewelry subscription service. Um, that's a no-brainer because I LOVE accessories! For $19 a month you get access to an unlimited closet of designer jewelry. Who doesn't love that? Once you've signed up, you're asked to take a brief survey which gives the stylists a better idea of your aesthetic. Three pieces of jewelry are then sent to you to flaunt and keep for as long as you want, or they can be swapped out when you're ready to try something new. In case you fall hard for any of the snazzy gems, you get the option of purchasing your jewels at 20% off. Not too shabby!

When I assess my colorful arsenal of accessories, there are timeless pieces I know I'll treasure forever and other trendy items that I typically end up giving away. Looking back at the jewelry I've donated, I realize I probably wasted a lot of money on pieces I didn't absolutely love or need. Womp, womp. Don't get me wrong, they were fun to wear at the time, but nothing I really treasured. Naturally, the option of receiving a box filled with three handpicked pieces to style and wear as I please sounds pretty fun and reasonable. I'm keen on trying different styles without the commitment of purchasing the trendy baubles. And in the event I do fall head over heels for any of the pieces, I can always purchase it at a discount price.

When I opened my first Rocksbox last week, I was pretty pleased with the pieces selected for me. I received the Urban Gem Victoria Necklace, the Gorjana Crescent Drop Earrings, and the Robyn Rhodes Ellis Bracelet. I especially love the simplicity of the studs and cuff. The necklace isn't terribly special, but it's fun to style and wear once or twice. I honestly would have never considered trying earrings like the ones the stylist chose for me, but I'm glad they included them in my Rocksbox. I was  also really drawn to the organic shape of the bracelet. I may keep this brand in mind for future gift ideas. This is a piece I can totally see my sister wearing on a frequent basis. Overall, Rocksbox is a fun way to mix things up in the spirit of baubles and bling. Who can you argue with that?!

MAKESHOP NYC

Like many of you, I browse the J.Crew website like a boss—it's a skill that makes my mother beam. As a result of such "talent", my index finger often works the wireless mouse in overdrive as I scroll up and down perusing the New Arrivals. Just recently, I checked out the Home and Gifts section, and I was delighted to see one of my favorite Etsy shops, Makeshop NYC, selling their dainty paper garlands. Great choice, Mickey and Jenna! I suppose this is just another reason we're not-so-secret besties, but I digress.

I originally purchased a green garland from Makeshop a few years ago and wrapped it around a stack of books. Unfortunately, the bright sunlight at Lil' Puna took its toll on the cheerful garland, and I pitched it before we moved. I guess I forgot how much I loved this little detail and seeing the garland on the J.Crew website had me eager to check out Makeshop's amazing color selection.

If you're unsure as to how the garland can be used, hop on over to Makeshop's blog for a handful of whimsical ideas. Go on and unleash your inner creator. Wrap, wear, hang, tie, layer, drape, and adorn the garland for projects, parties, home decor, and more.

Having just read Anna Spiro's book, I ordered a spool of hot pink for a punchy pop of color.
I haven't decided where it will go just yet, but that's the fun part!

Which color would you choose, and how would you use it?

This here's a post for all the paper-lovin' princesses. That's right, I'm talking about YOU!

I'm going to come right out and say it. I feel like I've been keeping a little secret from my fellow snail-mail fiends, and I feel terrible about it. Why it's taken me so long to share Ladyfingers Letterpress with you, I'm not exactly sure. Oops! I suppose it slipped my mind after stumbling upon the shop this past December. Hey, I had to keep some holiday gifts a surprise! Anywho, I should tell you I scored major brownie points when I presented family and friends with these Booze Bags. Can you say adorable?! They were a MEGA hit. I love them so much I decided to keep a spare set handy; you never know when you might need an impromptu gift. Am I right?! Six months have passed since my obsession with Ladyfingers Letterpress began, and I've found I'm just as smitten today.

Take a gander at some of m' favorites:
