Thirsty Thursday & a few other thoughts

I'm a gin girl.

I realize it may not be the typical alcohol of choice for a twenty-something girl, but I'm a big fan. I've been known to make my own concoctions (with a splash of raspberry lemonade, anyone?), but my absolute favorite is a trusty Tom Collins. The fact that I'm writing about this may be borderline boozer of me (maybe a bit boughetto), so I'll get to the point already. A few nights ago I got a text from a good friend. She was visiting family in Texas and tried a new drink called the Bee's Knees, which includes gin and she described it as lovely. I'm thinking all signs point to yes, and it's time to Google this gem already! Why have I not heard of this?

Here's the recipe:
2 oz gin
½ oz lemon juice
¾ oz honey syrup*
Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon.
Feel free to adjust the ratio as you may prefer more or less sweetness.

*Honey Syrup
Combine equal parts honey and water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Stir until honey is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool slightly then place in an airtight container and keep in the fridge.

As you've probably already assumed, a little gin cocktail and a cheese plate are in my future -- an unusual pairing, but tasty indeed.

Note: That last part sounds so swanky of me, but I've been known to drink gin while the flyboy is away with pairings like Cheez-Its and mac n cheese. Classy, I know! I just recently read an article about artisanal cheeses and gin, so I figured I'd try to be fancy. It's really just an excuse to drink some gin;)

Now buzz back to your hive and bust out that shaker!

Not in the mood for a mixed drink? I'll leave you with a few sunny images and thoughts!
A peaceful moment.
An inspiring quote.

May I interrupt this boring blog post
for a special announcement?
Have you seen the August issue of Glamour? Get it out and turn to page 84.
I promise, it's not the gin talking.

Work it. Own it.
It was only a matter of time before my brother from the bootheel made his debut. Look at that beautiful face.

Jonathan Brenden Clark is a dear friend and former roommate.
He's hit it big at Glamour magazine as an art assistant. I'm so proud of him:) Watch out NYC.

I hope you enjoyed your dose of sunshine.
Toodles!

  5. You know, I've never tried gin. I might need to try the Bees Knees! Or at least a Tom Collins :) And just to make you feel like you have some company in the semi-boozer category, I'm a big red wine and butter popcorn fan. Been known to have it for dinner. I'll jump on the classy wagon with you.
