Weekly Round Up

Here's what made me feel all twitterpated, smile contagiously, giggle uncontrollably, etc.

"D" is for Dog Whisperer
After my mom recommended I watch a specific episode that aired this week, I learned that I'm not the only person with a dog who spins. Phew! Because our Golden, Tripp, doesn't like to step outside of his comfort zone, he tends to spin when we go for walks. There have been times that he's done a 360 and thrown me into traffic. I try to apply what I learn on TV and from what I've read, but nothing seems to work. He's done this for the past three years, and we've come to accept it. I've learned that these Temple Grandin-like tendencies put him in a state of comfort. I've never known exactly how I should handle these scenarios. I try to preemptively avoid the spinning, but I'm not always successful at it. The take-home lesson from the episode: Cesar recommended the dog groomer straddle the dog when he starts to spin. I'm going to be calm-assertive and give it a shot this weekend. If anyone drives by and sees me straddling a 90 lb. dog, not to worry, I'm just consoling my neurotic dog.

For the love of instagram
This app has made taking photos on my iPhone extra fun! Here are a few photos I took this week, along with a few Matchbook faves.
Too true.

I saw this license plate this week, and it made me smile.
Maybe one day we'll sport a vanity plate like this sans minivan. Eek!

Flyboy & Beesly hanging out in the living room.
Cuddling & smiling are their favorite.

My dad sent this to Flyboy this week. I think my mom may have found it on etsy.
It's a cutout from a vintage cigar box.

I do love an old typewriter. This pink one is pretty stinkin' cute!

Did somebody say rewards?
I got my Fall Rewards in the mail this week. Woop woop!

Fresh Green Moleskines.
What shall I write?

So very true.

really funny music-induced moments
Hall & Oates: You Make My Dreams Come True
Setting: Ben Franklin Craft Store
Scenario: My sister and I are texting back and forth. I'm in a cruddy mood looking for supplies and resisting the urge to buy more polka dot tape or mini clothes pins. I put my phone back in my basket and accidentally end up in the scrapbook aisle. Can you spell suicide? I scurry away from the mass-produced cheesy embellishments and end up next to the card stock. Out of nowhere, You Make My Dreams Come True starts playing on the radio. I find myself all misty-eyed and laughing -- I can't help but think of my sister! She loves the song. Why am I hopelessly crying/laughing in a craft store? Snap out of it. I closed my eyes for a moment and pictured the two of us dancing through the store a la 500 Days of Summer. It took everything inside me to not start dancing. When I'm alone and emotional, I have a tendency to start awkwardly dancing. I think it has something to do with the fact that I love watching Ellen; I often dream of what it would be like if I had my moment in the spotlight to bust a move on her show. In all honesty, I would probably pass out or get nauseous. It's so much easier to straddle your coffee table at home and lower yourself on your couch, just as Ellen does with her chair.

"Music really can change your mood. It makes you feel good. It's one of the universal things that people love to share. You don't have to speak the same language to understand the song. Everybody knows what Bootylicious is. And you're looking at it." -- Ellen

Def Leppard: Pour Some Sugar On Me
Setting: Our Kitchen
Scenario: Flyboy and I are having breakfast. He sits at the bar and reads the iPad, while I pour our coffee and make toast. The Pandora app acts as our personal Pauly D -- we'll listen to anything from George Strait and Journey to Glee and Gaga. Anywho, I go to the sink to rinse some dishes. As Pour Some Sugar On Me begins to play, I look out the window. Our banana-hammock wearing neighbor is getting situated on his roof to catch some morning rays. Listen to the song and tell me you wouldn't start laughing. Perhaps it's just a sign of our middle-school level of humor, but we both died. Just as he begins to apply his tanning oil, I hear... "I'm hot, sticky sweet, from my head to my feet..." It felt like a moment in a sitcom, seriously.

cute necklaces
As you're already aware, I spend a lot of time online looking at blogs and scouring etsy. Here are some necklaces that I found this week. I'm absolutely smitten with them!

Well, that's just a few of the highlights from this past week.
While Flyboy is away, I plan on getting the creative juices flowing again and painting my nails.
How about you?
Toodles!

  5. So I listened to "You Make My Dreams Come True" today working out and this same picture came up for the album and I may have laughed out loud awkwardly and loudly on my spin bike (the guy on the right!)...and got weird stares from the people in the room. Glad there's someone else out there who does awkward things in public!
